Default Onward to Canada!

Okay, after spending the last 2+ hours bathing, blow-drying & brushing
Bodhi,
I think we're almost ready for our trip North. :-)

Renaissance Dog Shows & the Belgian Shepherd Club of Canada's National
Specialty in Chilliwack, British Columbia. We'll be showing
in breed (altered class--pretty cool of the Canadians to offer this class to
us
that want the practice w/ our "non-regular" dogs! grin), and in obedience.

I'll also be handling a friend's Scottish Deerhound in breed all weekend &
for
their regional Hound Specialty. Plus...I'm "puppy shopping"*, so I'm going
to be busy!

We're headed out early Thursday a.m., hope to be back early enough Sunday
night to get a few hours of sleep before work Monday a.m.!
I've heard that the Canadian shows are a blast, I can hardly wait!
(*hoping to see something up there that piques my interest, just as long as
they're
registerable blacks!)

Dang, I wish I could get over to the mainland!

Will be thinking of you while I run 2x Senior Hunter over here in the
swamps of Vancouver Island,

And we will be thinking of you & Storm--and happy we're NOT in a swamp! :-)
Best of luck, I know we'll be there all weekend, heading back after
the show on Sunday. I think we're estimating about 7 hours of driving.
(It's our "warm-up" run for Wisconsin next month...)

Trip report, please!

(One fail (mostly handler error), one pass in Senior Hunter. The sweetest,
most delightful pass. I burst into tears when Stormy brought back the last
bird at the end of an 11-hour day of testing).

Trip report, please!

It was beautiful! The weather cooperated, the site was nice (it was at
Heritage Park
in Chilliwack), the place where they held the herding was excellent. With
that gorgeous
mountain range as a backdrop things couldn't have been nicer. Well, the
hotel
room (on the 2nd floor) could have had an elevator! But other than that,
it was
a nice trip, made only better by the friendliness of nearly everyone we came
across.
(We ate a place called Boston Pizza, excellent food. And I'd never eaten
Baked
French Onion soup...it was superb!)

My friend's boy earned a 4 pt and a 5 pt major, so he's only needing one
more
Can. point for his Ch. up there (he's only needing one 3pt major down here).
I handled her Deerhounds for a brace, what fun, we made it to Group level
but she took them in when they went on to Best Brace in Show only to
lose to THE cutest brace of Frenchies I've ever seen.
In the Specialty, Bodhi earned Reserve Male in the Altered class, the win
went to an absolutely beautiful Veteran (who also earned BOS in the Veteran
Sweeps, so I do not feel badly about the judge picking him over us, they
truly deserved it!). Bodhi was sweet & kissed the judge, and had a
wonderful
time playing "Pretty Boy". :-) He loves to be groomed, and so this led to
a mini-disaster right before we went into the Obedience ring on Sunday.
He thought it would be fun to hop up onto the Stewards Table (not being
used), it was very slippery and he fell off, back onto the concrete!
I hear a collective gasp from the crowd as I'm trying to make sure he's
okay,
and keep my cool. The Steward patiently waited as I gave him a once-over,
put a big smile on my face when I decided he was okay, and in we went.

Not surprisingly, his On-Lead heeling was Not Pretty. While he seemed
okay, I
was a basket-case after his wipe-out! Then we went on to Figure 8, and on
his 1st sit at heel, he looked up and gave me the biggest, sweetest grin and
I
knew we'd be okay after that. I lightened up, and the rest of our
performance was
wonderful. We qualified, but no placement. However, I don't feel badly
at all
about that, the 4 placers were all very seasoned competitors (3 of them are
from
down here). So, we'll have to come back up for some of the shows this fall
(Cloverdale or Abbotsford maybe) to finish his Can. CD.
We did earned the ribbon that I was hoping to earn, the Belgian Shepherd
club
offered a "Brains & Beauty" rosette--very big and pretty--to entrants who
placed
in their conformation class (non-regular classes included) and qualified in
their
performance (herding and/or obedience) event. So, Yay for Bodhi! Yay for
us.

most delightful pass. I burst into tears when Stormy brought back the

last

Very nice. Great job to the both of you!!

Brutal. There's *so* much to learn, and it's really hard when it turns out
that I let down the team.

I will let you know if we plan on it. I have a friend (lives about
20 minutes from me) that goes to Canada all of the time. She's
asked me to go along several times, next time I might have
to take her up on it. :-)
