minature wire haired dachshund/wolfhound
I am looking for a puppy and have been considering a mini wire haired
dachshund. I currently have a 9 yr old Irish Wolfhound would this be a risky mix with such a small dog? |

ups.com... I am looking for a puppy and have been considering a mini wire haired dachshund. I currently have a 9 yr old Irish Wolfhound would this be a risky mix with such a small dog? Min. Dachshunds are tough little dogs. They are more prone to disc injury than many breeds but they don't have to be pampered either. I think most of your decision will depend on the habits of your existing dog. Is he extremely physical, does he stomp things with his paws when playing, will he accept another dog into the house? If he's not likely to be extremely physical (in a dangerous way) with the little dog and he will accept a new dog into the home then I think you'll be fine. Min. Dachshunds are **stubborn, hard-headed, independent, snotty** little dogs so be sure you want a supreme rule living in your house. They, especially the males, will constantly assume that role without firm leadership. They're great little dogs when trained & raised properly but too often they don't get the hardcore and/or long-term obedience training they need and they become little demons. -- Tara |

Putting aside all genuine comments about the combination, I think they'd make a wonderful pair to look at... -- Kate and Storm the FCR arfenarf at hotmail dot com |

.. . I know someone who has a mini dachshund and a Rottie. One guess which one's in charge. LOL. There hasn't been a Boxer in my home yet, not even those who were small-animal aggressive or seriously dominant, who wasn't utterly petrified of and totally respectful to Pebbles who wasn't even as tall as their elbows. When I'd have the dogs out in public people were always amazed to see a big Boxer next to a little Min. Dachshund and almost everyone asked how I managed it (protecting Pebbles). If they only knew how much personality and fearless idiocy those little dogs have. -- Tara |

There's a picture of Meeko in the hog pen baying her little heart out at the practice hogs. No one has the heart to tell her she's not a Catahoula. -Amanda Lucy Anna Skye, MB-CD, CGC BIMBS CH Cat's Cradle's Beaufort, CGC http://www.uberpest.com |
