!!!!!!!!! Pet Shelter For Evacuees of Katrina !!!!!!!!
Please cross post!! -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Pet Shelter For Evacuees of Katrina Date: Wed, 31 Aug 2005 16:32:15 -0500 Pet shelter AVAIL for evacuees in |Lafayette, La. Date: Wed, 31 Aug 2005 20:52:23 +0000 I don't have time to spend on the internet finding and learning how to post right now. Please just let all members know that we have opened a pet shelter at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, right next to the Cajundome. Evacuees may bring their pets their for housing. We have PLENTY of food, water, crates, cages, bedding and newspaper, BUT the owners are responsible for feeding, watering, walking and medicating their own pets. Interested parties may call Lafayette Parish Animal Control at 337-291-5644 for more information. Also many area vets are accepting animals right now, until they fill up. Get the Yellow Pages out! Please help me to get this word out. I've been working non-stop! THANKS! Nancy Marcantel -- |

Alpha, Here's one mo To all of the dog and cat lovers here, if you are looking to contribute personally to Hurricane Katrina aftermath efforts-- -----Original Message----- From: Lori Saylor [ ] Sent: Tuesday, August 30, 2005 12:46 PM Subject: Please help Dear fellow animal lovers: Project HALO is in the process of coordinating a trip to the flood-ravaged areas of MS, AL and LA to help rescue the displaced and injured animals. We did this when Floyd hit our coast and we're being called upon again. I just spoke with the NC Director of EARS (Emergency Animal Rescue Services) and she expects us to be deployed as early as Monday (9/5). I expected to be able to leave earlier but right now we understand they're focusing on human rescue and as we all know the animals' needs will be the last to be addressed. Following is a list of items I've been told are needed: Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation will have two drop sites available: First Ward Recreation 640 East 7th Street Parking lot is located on 6th Street Marion Diehl Center 2219 Tyvola Rd (between Park Road and South Blvd) Behind the Senior Center ITEMS NEEDED: Advantage/Frontline/Heartgard Plastic pet carriers Leashes/collars Food/water bowls Zip ties Litter/Litter boxes/Scoops Duct Tape Wet Ones/Handiwipes Paper Towels Plastic Trash Bags Tarps Plastic or Rubber Gloves Sharpie Pens Bug Spray for the volunteers Polaroid Film Polaroid Cameras Any type of wound-dressing material (gauze, tape, wound wash, etc) If any of you have a good relationship with your vet, see if they will donate some medical supplies. We need everything to set up a triage area for the injured. As always, Project HALO will gladly supply a donation receipt for any and all donations. If you can't get supplies to us then you're welcome to make a monetary donation via Paypal on our homepage of the website at www.projecthalo.petfinder.com We can make tax-free purchases at Petsmart. Every penny we save counts! We want the Bow Wow Bus loaded with supplies for these innocent victims. So many are left behind and forgotten when a disaster like this hits. It's our responsibility as an animal loving community to help. Project HALO will supply the transportation and gas along with volunteers, we just need your help with the supplies. Please forward this to anyone you think may be able to assist us. You may contact me directly at 704/395-2997 or cell-704/562-8939 to coordinate dropping off. My address is 2500 Taimi Drive, Charlotte, NC 28214 Sincerely, Rhonda Thomas Project HALO Lori Saylor Volunteer Services Coordinator Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation 5841 Brookshire Blvd Charlotte, NC 28216-2403 Phone: 704-336-5478 Fax: 704-319-9556 -- |
