GSD wanted!
Can anyone help me? My 11-year-old companion dog was put down several
weeks ago due to untreatable disabilities. I am alone and desolate, missing her so much. I am ready for another dog and want to give a loving home to a dog who needs me as much as I need him or her. I have found several such dogs in rescue shelters but I am considerd ineligible to adopt. Too old and too poor. I am an 89 year old woman who has age related problems but even so, according to my doctor, I am young for my years. I am self sufficient. I live in a trailer, but I own the trailer and it is located inside a six foot fence on the property of a long-time friend who loves animals as I do.I chose trailer living over a house in town because I prefer the quiet rural atmosphere.I'm sure that my dog felt the same way. I survive on social security augmented by sales of personal possessions plus an income as a writer. I write a weekly newspaper column. I thoroughly agree on the "forever home" adoption requrement, but I am looking for a dog whose life expentancy is similar to my own. According to my doctor I have a future. I'm guessing three or four years and perhaps more. No guarantee, but not even a 20-year-old can promise a "forever home" for a dog. I want a purebred GSD because I have owned and loved eight GSDs in my lifetime. I know and understand this breed and I want that temperament, those characteristics. In my younger years I participated in Shutzhund clubs. I am familiar with training. I founded an Adopt-A-Pet shelter in my home town. I am truly knowledgeable about GSDs. Papers mean nothing to me. I am not seeking a show dog or a working dog. Just a loving companion. Because my departed dog was a pedigreed dark colored long haired GSD I now want a short haired black-and-tan, large or extra large, either sex. I do not wish to compare my new dog to my departed one. This must be a fresh start. A move forward. I have hoped to acquire a retiring breeding bitch. I can offer unlimited love and attention, good food, proper care to an adult dog who does not require more activity than is available in a large yard. He or she will sleep beside my bed at night and will hopefully follow me in and out of the trailer, stay near me always. I can't afford a $1500 dog, but can manage a few hundred and I have ample funds for vet bills as necessary. My home is in the Pacific Northwest. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated. Jan |

@webtv.net says... My home is in the Pacific Northwest. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated. Try Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue, http://www.spdrdogs.org/. I have a friend who's a small-dog breed rep there, and she's always overjoyed when she can place a senior dog with a senior citizen. -- Debbie the Dogged das at spamcop dot net "Poodles are space aliens who think they've disguised themselves as dogs." - Paghat the Ratgirl |

Here are some more NW resources: http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/OR85.html http://www.arescuemom.org/ http://www.pasadosafehaven.org/AARFF...AARFF_Home.htm (they're a haven, but they also adopt out animals) -- Debbie the Dogged das at spamcop dot net "Poodles are space aliens who think they've disguised themselves as dogs." - Paghat the Ratgirl |

THANKS!!!!!
As of yesterday I have my canine companion adopted from Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue. A wonderful GSD. An extra large black-and-tan nuetered male, seven years young. Gentle and well mannered but alert, active and playful with the true GSD temperament. He seems to be happy with me and I am certainly happy to have him! Jan |
