Default Disease of German Shepherds?

My vet is treating my dog for worms even though preliminary tests were
negative. The dog has had diarrhea and some vomiting. She said that if it is
not worms, it may be a particular disease which Shepherds get.
Unfortunately, I did not ask WHAT disease. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe Hypoadrenocorticism (Addison's Disease) ?? Google it...it's
really rare though.

A friend of mine has a spayed female GSD with chronic pancreatitis.
This issue seemed to have had an idiopathic genesis when about the
middle of her first year. This dog is now around 5 years old and her
vomiting and diarrhea are controlled with enzymes added to her food -
20 minutes before feeding each meal.

I would hazard a guess that this is the disease your vet was talking
about - I've come across a few people with GSD's who suffer this... have a
look here for further info on just about anything GSD:

GSDs are one of the few breeds that can have a condition called PEI
(Pancreatic Enzyme Insufficiency) - this disease can be managed well with
proper feeding and the addition of supplemental digestive enzymes in about
98% of cases.

PEI dogs are usually skinny, always hungry, have chronic diarrhea and will
eat inedible items such as dish towels, clothes, etc. because they are SOOOO
hungry.
