TIBETAN TERRER HEALTH PROBLEMS/ Have you got one??
Hi,
I am planning to obtain a Tibetan terrier within the next six months. I have not seen this breed live yet, except for dogs on tv on the Westminster dog show. I had a large Lhasa Apso which weighed 22 pounds at five and a half months and at adult weighed approx 29 pounds. Many thought she was a Tibetan terrier as per her size and character. I think the real Lhasa would be too small for my liking. My Lhasa was on Iams for the better part of her life and after contacting bladder calcium stone and a subsequent operation to remove them she was put on some special diet. She lated contacted diabetes at 11 years old. I want to be very careful in checking out the Tibetan terrier befor I go ahead and purchase one. I read on the web that they can have hip and eye problems. Can someone who owns a Tibetan terrier tell me what kind of health problems I might encounter and how to avoid them when purchasing one. In a similar situation, it took me over a year from the time I started searching until my Australian Shepherd puppy came home. Much of that time involved locating a responsible breeder and then waiting for the next planned litter. Can someone who owns a Tibetan terrier tell me what kind of health problems I might encounter and how to avoid them when purchasing one. If you are less picky, then a year out is a good guess as to when to target having a pet after the breeder search has begun. |

TIBETAN TERRER HEALTH PROBLEMS/ Have you got one??
From private email:
Matt, Thanks for your input. I have already read about health problems on web. I would like to hear from Tibetan owners. Thanks again. It looks like you're not going to find many Tibetan Terrier owners here. There may be a few lurkers, but I rarely see TTs mentioned. You probably need to attend some breed shows and subscribe to a breed-specific email list. A minute of poking around in Yahoo groups found a bunch: http://pets.dir.groups.yahoo.com/dir/1600042604 -- --Matt. Rocky's a Dog. |

Tibbies are a CHIC breed: http://www.caninehealthinfo.org/brdreqs.html?breed=TT These are the tests the parent club think are important for Tibetan Terriers to have before breeding. |
