When the handler breaks down
I saw a terribly sad thing this morning at a big obedience match in
S.F.. A friend of mine has recently lost a great deal of her speech and mobility. Stroke was a possibility, but EEG & EKG Thurs. showed that the blood vessels in her neck are constricted, depriving the brain of O2. This has come on within a month or so. She has a GSD who lives for her alone, that got her UDX this past summer. She showed this morning for fun, and it was horrible to watch. The dog can no longer understand her commands, though she tried very very hard to. When she sent the dog out for the directed jumps, the dog checked for gloves, then made tentative steps to both jumps, then sat down whining. It was heartbreaking. May we all always be able to be there for our dogs. Lynn K. |
