German Shepherd
To previous comments,,,,, I've been stationed in Germany in the past,
and and a friend who is a GSD breeder who was stationed there recently. You are going to need almost the entire length of an assignment to get into a position where the decent breeders will much more than acknowledge that you are alive, unless you have previous experience with the breed. So find a club and get involved.... Typically the purebreds sold to inexpert Americans can't even be registered by the AKC once brought to the US.... because they are not rated as breeding stock in Germany. So you want to work yourself out of that pit. Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia |

I am currently stationed in Germany and was wondering if anyone knew of some good breeders over here. I would like to buy a puppy before I go home to the states, one that I could use for breeding. Almost every town in Germany has a club & I'd advise you to get involved with the one where you are stationed and get to know the local breeders. More importantly, let them get to know you. There is generally no incentive for a good breeder to sell a breeding quality dog to go to the states. That breeder's reputation is based on the achievements of the dogs they've bred in worldwide competition and very few of the dogs that are exported to the US are brought back to Europe to compete. It's natural for them to want to keep their best dogs where they will enhance their reputation and bloodlines. If you are very serious, a breeder may take a chance on you, but it's up to you to make that committment. Lynn K. |

Oops. I forgot to suggest that you might look for a 5-6 yr old ScH 3 V & Koer rated male instead. A breeder whose space and energies are devoted to dogs coming up may let you have a good foundation dog on a coownership. Lynn K. |
