Default human foods and dogs

I've been feeding my dogs (shitzu and pekingese) cooked human foods like
rice, chicken, beef, pork, vegetables. I did this since they won't eat
much and they're thin. So now after feeding them human foods for 4
months now, they're more active, happy, has more meat, than skin and
bones, and over-all looks better.

Any vets here who disagrees?

Kelly,
I'm not a vet but will offer some opposition thinking to Buglady.
First of all Buglady is right on target, if you aren't being careful
and following some kind of recipe you can easily get into trouble. In
studies of home prepared foods over 90% were either deficient or in
excess of two or more nutrients. Dogs are not little humans and their
nutrient needs are quite different. One of the most difficult of cases
is to get these little guys back off the dinner table snacks. Hopefully
it never happnes, but should you one day need to move to a special diet
for some disease situation you will have the devil of a time getting
them to eat it because they've succesfully "trained" their owner
otherwise.

.........opposition to what? This is what I said since you can't manage to
operate Google newsgroups:

First of all Buglady is right on target,

............I'm wrong and then I'm right? Why don't you just respond to the
poster instead of dragging me into your reply?

if you aren't being careful
and following some kind of recipe you can easily get into trouble. In
studies of home prepared foods over 90% were either deficient or in
excess of two or more nutrients.

...........And some of those studies were found to be glaringly erroneous.
Retractions were printed.

Dogs are not little humans and their
nutrient needs are quite different.

.....Yes, that's true. This fact doesn't presuppose that you can't learn
what they are and prepare appropriate food.

One of the most difficult of cases is to get these little guys back off the

dinner table snacks.
.......preparing appropriate meals for your dog at home is not equal to
giving dinner table snacks. That's like saying Hohos and Fritos are
complete meals.

Hopefully
it never happnes, but should you one day need to move to a special diet
for some disease situation you will have the devil of a time getting
them to eat it because they've succesfully "trained" their owner
otherwise.

........then they can get a specially formulated home prepared meal. I don't
see the problem here.
