Default Wolves drink unlike dogs?

I've heard a lot of canine myths but I recently encountered something
new. I wonder if it has *any* factual basis.

A man saw me with our northern breed foster dogs and told me about his
wolf hybrid. He explained that one of the dog's siblings drank water
by curling its tongue lengthwise and using it "like a straw." That,
of course(!), is how wolves drink so it was immediately killed for
being too wolf-like.

I haven't found any info about differences between wolves and dogs when
it comes to drinking. Any pointers?

Thank you.
