Subject: Home Visit Checklist?

I am sorry Sally. Maybe there is no correlation. I say if a person is turned down by rescue they are getting dog one way or another. Actually this is not always true. Sometimes IME I have talked the person out of a dog, PERIOD. Sometimes they would need to go SO FAR AWAY they are too lazy to do so. Just pointing out that ppl do think they know someone and sometimes they really don't. Well, it's debatable that you can ever *really* know anyone. Cate OK so next question about the HC'ers, is what credentials as dog ppl do they have. Titles on their dogs? Nope Dog behaviorist, human behaviorist. Doggie shrink here : ) Do they know right off the bat how to spot a good con artist? I usually can What special knowledge and skills do they have that makes them know after a HC that these ppl are right or wrong to adopt a dog to? CONFIDENCE Do they have qualifications like PetsMart trainers? Or more than that? Or are they just dog loving volunteers? In my area it is simply the last. SIMPLY I am someone that has a passion and always has had a passion to rescue and rehab dogs that noone else wants. Suja I would say that the above is how at least 1/3 of dogs end up in shelters. Though once a dog is lucky enough to get in the hands of rescue at least it never has to see the inside of a shelter again. Gwen Unfortunately NOT TRUE. A lot of times when a dog gets adopted, UNLESS the rescue people have good follow up, dogs do slip thru the cracks and wind up again in a pound. : ( Paulette~ "The only thing about resisting temptation is you might not get another chance" |

You see now this would be something that would get my antennas up. As when people do not want to do the home visit ASAP, then I think that they are not so serious about adopting a dog from me. Why? Most people don't know what the turnaround time is for different rescues (it is one week on average for us), and are often caught completely off guard when you call 3 days after they submit the application to arrange for a HC (and then there are people who call every person they know from the rescue every half hour to see if their app has been processed). I'd much rather the potential adopters wait until they're back from vacation to meet the volunteer and talk about available dogs at that time. Suja |
