Default Question about ears

I'm just curious about this. I get to see a lot of dogs where I work and I
noticed that many times if a Shepherd is crossed with something (even
another dog that has ears that stand up) the ears are floppy (I've seen
many husky/shepherd mixes like this).

Does anyone know what causes this (I know it's probably soe sort of
genetics thing) and can explain this in layman terms?

Of course since they are crosses I suppose it could just be that they dn't
know about the third dog in the mix (I'm supposing ears that stand up
are not a dominate trait).

The root cause of problems is simple overpopulation. People just aren't
worth very much any more, and they know it. Makes 'em testy. ...Bev
