I just had to laugh.
Our herding club had a meeting a few weeks ago. We were sitting
around discussing club business over pizza, when one of the women
began talking about her new puppy. She has Rottweilers, herding
Rotties. The three dogs of hers I've seen have been really nice workers.
Her newest addition is this super cute little thing that
loves to herd ducks (she's maybe 18 wks by now?).
Anyway, someone asked her how her puppy was doing, and she
commented, "Oh she's great. She's the weirdest puppy though,
she is always moving! While my other Rotts would settle in & lie
at my feet, this girl never stops!".
I look across the table at two friends (one who has Groenendaels,
the other who has a Terv), and we all sort of chuckle.
I ask the Rottie lady, "And...?"
She just looks at me, we three are laughing. "Is she running around you as
you sit in your chair?" I ask.
"No, she's just always on the move," she says.
"Does she circle the recliner for fun?" asks my friend w/ Groens.
By this time, the three of us are laughing pretty heartily now. Then the
club's newsletter editor starts laughing, "...and the Belgian people
just laugh," she says (she has an ACD & a Kelpie).
I just thought it funny what some people consider strange puppy behavior,
and what others consider normal puppy behavior! I'd be worried if Bodhi
just wanted to lie around at my feet, even if he does calm down now & then!

Rusty was forced to be lazy when he was on bed rest for his broken leg for a
month when he was less than a year old. He never stopped, though, when he
was healed. He happily plays for 30 minutes in the morning, loves his
afternoon walk, but other than that, our dog SLEEPS constantly.

At age 3, Madigan will now lie around at my feet. I thought she'd never

stop
being in motion. :}

Mmmm... =)

Belgians are the most wonderful little puppies, I'm hoping I will have time
to go see Hobbe's breeder sometime around christmas, she has some black pups
now, and I just adore the belgian puppies. They are always on the go until
they suddenly just turn themselves off and sleep. =) They kinda stay that
way too, except when they get older YOU can control the off switch.
This means in my case that there is no problem living in a one bedroom
apartment with a very small kitchen with two of these beasts. When I don't
want to play, I say so and they lie down. Sometimes I have to go look in the
corners to see that they are really both here =) Outside is a different
matter of course, if Hobbe hasn't gotten enough exercise (like now, it has
been flu-time) he is ready to burst. In the park he runs and runs around. He
is also smart, I don't always have to use the off switch, he can be jumping
with joy, but if we go to the tramstop he calms down and starts behaving
himself because he knows that in trams, buses and subways he has to be calm.
A funny thing about belgians is also that when you meet another belgian
owner, you almost always have something in common - you just adore these
dogs =)
I might try some other breed, but I don't think I want to live without a
belgian.
