Subject: Home Visit Checklist?
From: Gwen Watson Date: Wed, Sep 24, 2003 3:27 PM Message-id: Still I realize this is not the norm but in my posts I am speaking about me, not the vast majority. Since I did say I didn't care for strangers coming into my house. We collect artifacts. How am I to know about the rescue person? Should I do a background check on them, to see if they might come back and steal my collection of Indian Artifacts? Hmmmmmm I have to say there are SO many NEW people that come here and I have yet to worry about such, and believe me when I say the house is packed with good stuff.: ) Of course I do have my little dogs to guard their stuff ; ) snip about me making messes Try having mucho MEN always here, with MUDDY BOOTS on ! No but it is MO that these HC's and rigid, unflexibility does turn many people off, thus continuing a high market for Puppy mills, BYB and Pet Stores. JMO of course. So be it t hen, as if it turns them off perhaps they are nt the right one to adopt a dog to. I do understand Sally but some ppl don't want strangers in their houses. Especially ones they have NO background on, ie criminal record, credit history, spouse, kids etc. Interesting you feel that way as most people that work in rescue are putting themselves in harms way by going to a strange house. I know that I always have one of my dogs or a friend as some people can creep you out. As I mentioned I have quite a valuable collection at home. You know you mentioned this a few times and I have to say if you wanted a dog from me I would have to consider how important your collection is to you and that perhaps a dog from me would not be for you. AS most of mine are annoying 80-100 pound pups! And they *could* break something very easily and what then I would be thinking? DH is very strange about ppl being in our house that he doesn't know very well for this reason. I do mean very strange. He considers this collection gold or his babies. Again VERY interesting. And a rescue person could be just anyone? How much is the rescue facility checking on the people doing HC's? Seriously. I would like to know all that had to be disclosed in order to become a HC'er. I am very curious. Ok with me and because I am well known here I doubt very much people are afraid of me.(at least in me stealing from them) ; ) Also all our volunteers that do home visits are women so perhaps that would be less threatning ? I KNOW all my volunteers as I said I make them follow me around for a few weeks and they too have to fill out an extensive application . Reason being you do not want any nutties if you can help it as that is a law suit just waiting to happen. If we do have a guy a woman goes with him, to make the person who is at home at ease. Anyway GWen all your questions are VERY GOOD and VALID. Gwen Paulette~ "The only thing about resisting temptation is you might not get another chance" |

I've had people tell me this before....about doing their own vaccines (and I do know people who do it)....but wouldn't provide titers. They were turned down. Anyone can say they self-vaccinate when they really don't so, in such cases, I'd demand titer results. The folks I bought Image from self-vaccinate (it's common in mushing kennels, where they typically have a lot of dogs and modest means). When I bought Image I was provided with the wrapper (with label) from the bottle the vaccine came in, along with hand-written information about the date it was administered, etc. I'm comfortable with that, myself. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - I'm walking the dog, all day and all night |

I know people with modest incomes who buy used luxury cars and maintain them well and I know people who make good money but don't care about cars and drive old beaters. There are a lot of factors involved in who drives what. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - I'm walking the dog, all day and all night |
