Default no sense of smell?

Hi, I think the dog we adopted a month or so ago has no sense of
smell! Has anyone ever heard of this as a problem? She does seem to
have some allergies (though lately she hasn't seemed as itchy or
anything), but she doesn't seem to smell things like food--if a piece
of cheese drops on the ground, which she loves, we have to show her
where it is for her to notice it. And she never sniffs around on
walks unless she really has to go to the bathroom--she just stays on
the sidewalk with us. But tonight was the real test--we visited
friends with two dogs and were playing with them all night and came
home and our dog wasn't remotely interested in sniffing us!

This seems like a bit of a problem, since dog's senses of smell are
supposed to be so good and such a source of information for them. Any
suggestions/advice/similar stories out there?

Thanks!
Arielle
