do some breeds smell more than others?
"culprit" wrote in message ...
you know that "doggy" smell that some dogs get? is that breed related? Oh, yeah. Ever smell an old male Bloodhound? But there are other factors, like diet and allergies. My old Rottie/Elkhound bitch tends to have oily skin and a heavy undercoat. One week on AvoDerm had her positively reeking with oil in her coat. Lynn K. |

my 8 yr. old chow girl never, ever had a single bath, rain and snow keep her
sweet smelling. wrote in message ... culprit wrote: you know that "doggy" smell that some dogs get? is that breed related? Lola doesn't smell like dog. she smells clean even when she rolls around in the yard. i've never noticed any other pit bulls smelling bad either. I think it may be breed related. None of my Chows ever had that "doggy" smell. -- Ken, Pookie and Sammy -- |

I had a dog from the pound who stunk to high heaven when I first brought her home. After a month or so, the smell went away. Also my puppy stunk at first, but now doesn't. IN his case, it was diet related, I think. Sara you know that "doggy" smell that some dogs get? is that breed related? Manu, on the other hand, has this doggy odor about him. i just bathed both of them last saturday, and by today, Lola smells the same as when i just bathed her, and Manu smells, well, he smells like a dog. is this the Lab in him? his hair is longer and much thicker than your average pit bull, maybe the long hair traps smell more? just curious to hear about other people's experiences. -kelly |

I've also heard that it is in some way hereditary, dogs with that perfume smell more often get puppies that smell than THAT'S IT! It is located on her head, between her ears. For a while, I was sure it came from sleeping on clean sheets. When she is stressed, the scent is stronger. I wish I could quantify it...her second litter appears to not have the scent. Do you remember where you read about this? Unfortunately the article i read was in finnish, so i guess it wouldn't be of much use to you =( Rosa |

They help me understand a Finnish ESS list Mindy, still trying to pronounce Ihana Oh, Finnish is a really difficult language to learn, so don't worry if it takes you some time to understand or speak it. It took me years, and i've lived in Finland all my life =) The article about the "flower dogs" was in a magazine called "Koiramme" (our Dogs) that the finnish kennelclub sends to it's members. To my recollection it was in a magazine from year 2002, or 2001. I have saved some of the magazines, so i will go through them and see if i can find the right one for you =) I tried searching the web, but i found nothing =( Rosa |
