This morning my golden retriever was shaking and could walk

I have an 8 year old female golden retriever. Before I went to work
this morning I noticed that she was lying down and shaking/shivering.
I called her to see what was the matter but she had a really hard time
getting up. When she tried to walk she almost fell over and she seemed
very uncoordinated. I pet her head for a while to reassure her but her
tail was between her legs. The whole episode lasted only a minute or
two and she seemed fine after that but still a little scared I think.

Any ideas? I want to say this might have happened once or twice before
but if it has then it's been so long that I can't remember.

Yes. Call your vet. There's absolutely no way for anyone here to tell
what caused your dog's shaking episode, nor how it should be handled.
Once you have a diagnosis, *then* folks here might be able to help you.

Too many possibilities to speculate at her age. Shaking can also be a sign
of severe pain. She could have an ACL tear or other orthopedic probem, mouth
pain from an abscessed tooth, etc. But, again, too many possibilities

My mind headed towards a seizure when I read this, but my mind always seems
to go towards seizure... (I wouldn't be thinking severe pain, as the dog
seemed fine in a couple of minutes)

Definitely something I'd want someone to look in to though regardless.

Did your dog survive? This same thing happened to our golden retriever this afternoon. My husband thought she was dying. She was army crawling to him in the yard and couldn't walk. Seemed disoriented and was shaking after he had her lay still. We took her to an emergency vet clinic today. Her vitals are good, but they suspect heart problems or thyroid. We are taking her to our vet tomorrow for more testing.

.............Could be a bunch of things, including Addison's disease. If
it was a seizure, there can be multiple reasons for that too, including
diabetes. If you are in tick country, tick disease should be
considered. Hope your dog is doing OK now.
