Primary Glaucoma
I just found out that my little miniature long haired dachshund has primary
glaucoma. Does anyone have any information or a dog that has this condition? Thanks. -- "There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face." Bern Williams |

wrote in message ... I just found out that my little miniature long haired dachshund has primary glaucoma. Does anyone have any information or a dog that has this condition? One of my Cockers was diagnosed with primary glaucoma in his right eye a year ago when he was only 2 yrs. old. The glaucoma is being kept under control with Xalatan & Timolol (2 drops of each per day). Sometimes, however, he does have "pressure spikes" when the pressure goes up quite a bit. So far that has been managed by giving him 1 extra drop of Xalatan a day. The vet has told me that if the meds ever stop controlling the pressure, he would refer me to a vet hospital where they can do laser surgery. Sometimes the surgery will help for 6 months, sometimes even longer. I've done some research and found that Cockers seem to be good candidates for this type of surgery. Apparently, some breeds do better than others; but then again, some dogs are just helped more than others, irregardless of the breed. Sometimes a second laser surgery may be needed. All of the references cited in a previous post are excellent references. I've particularly learned a lot about glaucoma in dogs from the blind dogs Yahoo site. Feel free to email me personally if you have specific questions about glaucoma. Mindy, I appreciate you taking the time to reply to me. I may take you up
on your offer to email you with questions. I take Bridgee on Monday to a specialist to see what, if anything, can be done for her. "melinda" wrote in message ... wrote in message ...
