Sorry, I didn't post it here

Goodness. I'm glad they're feeling better, and I hope you get some
answers. I'm curious to know what you find out.

A toxin of some sort is the primary guess, but we can't figure out WHAT
it could possibly be. I have poked over every inch of my yard, the
house is fine, and we plain old don't have poisons around and they
aren't dogs who eat or drink weird stuff. No mushrooms currently and
they have always ignored them anyway. We will probably never know,
which drives me crazy. I've gotten a ton of thoughts from a lot of
people over the last few days, but unfortunately, that hasn't led to any
enlightenment.

Whatever it was, Marcie was virtually symptomless except for the black
stool, Rudy was most affected bowel-wise and Lucy vomited 3x as much as
he did. All a puzzlement. They are taking a bunch of meds and
everything seems to be on the right track.

Paul hasn't been in the neighborhood has he?

I wouldn't put anything past a person who hangs on to trivia the way he
does

Now, don't be making wild accusations. But I did lose a bag of smelly old
socks in Ellicott City a few days ago...

I hear ya. I still think of Ranger as "the young dog", but he's 13 and the
*oldest*. Two recent events have really brought his age home to me.
First, seeing him side-by-side with Caris, who is more laid-back in
temperament but very much a puppy still. Second, one of the club
instructors called Ranger "Sam" twice in the same class, and I've been
calling him "Sam" on-and-off since then.

He's spry and feisty for an old dog, but there's no longer any denying that
he IS an old dog. A high-energy, ball-obsessed, old dervish of a dog, for
which I am grateful.

I think every day I have her with me is a blessing.

I hope you continue to be blessed for many, many days to come.

Ditto!

We have mealtime roo-rooing again, and that's music to my ears!

do you have any hycinth (sp?) bulbs in your yard? someone on my poodle
list recently went thru something like this and there is a possibility
that they ate some bulbs.

Only in the front and they aren't out there. I've checked every plant
of every kind in the backyard already. Per normal, none have been
disturbed at all. Thanks for the thought though.

Sorry, I didn't post it here (come to Facebook!). They all got sick on
Sunday and we had a mass visit to the vet on Monday. All had gastric
bleeds of unknown origin. The gold dogs were vomiting, Marcie was fine,
but they all had pitch black stool. All are doing well now. Lucy spent
2 days in the hospital, but the others came home and they're all taking
several meds for a week. I'm fairly frustrated that we have NO idea
what caused this. It really brought home that Lucy is not a youngster
anymore.

The recent (current?) illness of my 3 dogs really brought aging to light
for me. Since we don't know the cause of the illness, there are a lot
of unanswered questions, but there is no doubt in my mind that Marcie's
youth and general health kept her healthier through all of this than
Lucy's aging body.

I think of Lucy as timeless. She's such a playful and happy girl, and
to see her not doing her happy dance for meals (but still eating them
mind you) was crushing. Of 3 sick dogs, she's the only one that
needed to stay at the vet, get her meds IV, have her body get total rest
and 24/7 care. I have to come to grips with the fact that at 12+, she's
not as hearty as she once was and that she won't live forever. I hate
having to realize that.

She is a little stiff sometimes, but no big deal. Some days she can
leap right into the car, other days she needs a boost. Yesterday, she
needed more than a boost, her body weakened by illness and not quite up
to par. She is much improved today, pretty much herself, but still a
little on the quiet side. The house was horridly quiet without her here
on Monday night. How a senior dog missing can create that silence was
quite surprising. I hate the idea of her not being here at all at some
point in the future.

Once everyone is well, I think I really need to make sure we get a lot
of swimming days in, enjoy the summer sunshine, and live canine life to
the fullest. Not that we don't try to do all of those things anyway,
but I feel a stronger commitment to it now. I think every day I have
her with me is a blessing.

I'm sorry to hear that all your dogs have serious illnesses. It is
especially disturbing that your young pup Marcie is also ill. Could there
be a common factor in the environment causing some of this?

Yeah!

Just what do either of you assholes imagine that could be?
