I'm afraid whippets aren't a breed I know a lot about but those I have met seem to vary a great deal in size, with the females being notably smaller - is he / she fully grown yet? If not, I'd suggest you ask his / her breeder who will have some idea of how tall s/he should be in adulthood - if s/he is fully grown, measure from the floor to the top of the dogs head, add an inch and look for the closest height available over this size. Hi Tessa, For airline travel the dog must be able to stand up and lie down comfortably. Measure the dog when he is in a natural standing position. For height of the crate, measure from the ground to the top of his head and for the length, from tip of nose to base of tail plus at least 4 extra inches*. Keep the dogs head in the same position when you measure. * Usually you measure from the dogs elbow to ther ground and add half of thye measurement to the length of dog but for long legged breeds, it makes the crate to long and they tend to slide around in it . "Tessa" wrote in message m... I am about to get a whippet and would like to know what size Vari Kennel to get. I understand for travelling smaller means safer Why are you buying a VariKennel? Is it for one-time immediate use in having the dog shipped, for traveling around in your car on a regular basis, or for home use (e.g. crate training)? And is the dog you're getting a puppy or an adult? If it's an adult, then ask the person you're getting the dog from for the dog's measurements, and go from there. If it's a baby PUPPY, you'll most likely need a smaller crate now, and a larger one later. |
