Default Kennel cough or something else

We were concerned our dog had kennel cough (typical raspy cough /
clearing throat sound) and took him to the vet. Vet agreed it "might
be" kennel cough and put him on antibiotics but was also puzzled since
he hadn't been around other dogs for 2 weeks. Cough was gone in a day.
He has since been back to dog "day camp" and in each case, has coughed
that night and the next. The cough then disappears in a day.

My question - is it possible that he has been barking so much or
playing so roughly as to have a non-disease cough; essentially a raw
throat?
