What can I give my dog for the arthritis in her back legs? Is there
such a thing as cortisone shot for dogs? Thanks |

Yes there is such a thing as a cortisone shot for dogs. Steroids need
to be used with extreme caution in animals. If your vet didn't go this route, it isn't the treatment of choice at present. You don't give many details! What has the vet recommended/prescribed? How old is the dog? I like the results I've gotten with the supplement glucosamine. This takes several weeks to reach full effect as it increases the amount and thickness... and "slipperiness" of the fluid in the joints. It is admistered by weight of the dog. With this, I have only needed to give pain medication on the dog's "bad days".. saving it for the time near the end of the dog's life when supplements may not control all of the joint pain, or for times when pain from other sources may be a problem. I like the products I've gotten over the years from K.V. Vet Supply (don't I Wish I benefitted financially... but I don't)... Their web site has excellent information on how these products work and has a choice of them. Check out www.kvvetsupply.com Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia |
