Your mother is quite amazing. Did she mention if she had doors
slammed in her face or were people mostly polite if not receptive?

People were mostly polite. Some people were sick of hearing
from the campaigns and I'm not sure exactly what happened
but she said that some McCain supporters were rude. Because
I live in NY the presidential campaigns basically don't
bother with us, even though the area I live in is moderate
Republican and can go either way in an election depending on
circumstances, candidates, etc. (this year the area voted
for Republicans for everything except president). I'd like
to stick a firecracker up the butt of the electoral college
system.

But unlike your sister my mother was going door-to-door and
people tend to engage a little more easily, I think. When
candidates for local office stop by I always chat with
them. Anyway, she spent a lot of time talking with a vet
who'd been badly injured in Iraq and was very moved by his
story.

obDog: when candidates stop by the dogs are always a
conversation starter.

Note to self - maybe we should move to NY.

Not if you want your vote to count.

I did get an invitation to the Biden/Clinton/Clinton rally
in Scranton. I couldn't go, but at least it was something.
The Obama campaign stopped sending yard signs to NY because
there really wasn't any point to it for them. At least the
people running for local office really want our votes and
for the most part they work to try to get them. The
national campaigns, pfft.

This Ohioan fit into every desirable demographic known to mankind for
elections. We were up to 24 calls a day. Plus Obama next to Cleveland
Browns stadium on game day, plus Palin in our "back yard", a park one
mile from our home.

I would have gone to both. I think it's important to be
there when historic stuff happens. Although I guess by the
end the only people going to Palin rallies were the
hard-core crazies, and that monkey/Muslim/terrorist garbage
was pretty upsetting. But both Obama and Palin are going to
end up in the history books. Maybe it's having grown up in
Virginia or having grown up in the 1960s and having all
those heroic public figures, but I just love that crap.

Hey, if you think you've got it bad, try living in DC, where they throw
in no Congressional representation for good measure.

Sometimes having Congressional representation is exactly the same.

I'm glad to hear it. I really AM good at standing off leg veins
(trust me about that!) but even on my big dogs they're still SO
small, and like to roll so much. Jugulars, OTOH... how can you
possibly miss them?!

This was kind of funny. For his first stick, they shaved a small spot
around his jugular (as I mentioned before he's become inordinately hairy) to
get the hair out of the way. The second time around, they kept poking
about, without being able to find the shaved spot. 'I swear I just shaved a
spot on this dog an hour ago', followed by more poking about. They
eventually found it by finding the jugular first and following it, but I
haven't been able to since.
