My dog is mad and pees
My 6 year old part Chinese crested pees in the house. He is allowed upstairs but sometimes he is not and there is a barrier across the bottom. He usually squirts on the floor close to the barrier. Is there any way to stop this

My dog is mad and pees
Is he neutered? That might help some. He is MARKING his territory. He
is not "mad" at you. Housetraining sure helps and for dogs like this, you need to start over (it will go more quickly than with a puppy). Before you start, borrow, rent or buy a black-light bulb (you can find them in Some pet stores already on a utility cord) at Home Depot, Lowes, or other similar store, along with a utility light cord. Pick up some chalk, too. Darken each room and show the light close to all surfaces that his urine Might have reached. Where he's peed, it will glow. Mark around the edges lightly with chalk. SATURATE each of these areas.... floors, walls, front and seat of furniture, woodwork.... with an enzyme based cleaner-deodorizer Specifically for pets, such as Nature's Miracle, or Orange Solution. The enzyme solution will destroy the protein in urine that is literally calling him back to keep those spots scented. Stuff like home remedies DO NOT get rid of this..... You may not smell it, but he sure does! You may need up to a gallon or more! Limit where he can go in the house... for now. He MUST be under human supervision at all times until he is reliably dry indoors. This may be for the rest of his life. Put him on a schedule for meals, naps, play, walks. For several weeks, you will need to TAKE him outside on LEASH as soon as he wakes in the AM, after naps, after meals, after playing hard, soon after a large drink of water. Take him to three or four places in the yard and stay at each place until he pees. When you bring him back indoors, if he pees inside, grab his little butt and take him right back outside without saying a thing and make sure he goes again at least once. Every time he pees outside, praise him and give him a TINY treat (I use Cheerio breakfast cereal.... but pretty much anything that is about the size of a pea; the important thing is that it comes from your hand with praise; it is a training treat, not a stretch-out-and-chew treat.) When you cannot directly supervise him he must be in his crate.... when you are busy, when you are napping or sleeping, taking a shower, or away from home. If you do not have a crate, get one. It needs to be big enough for him to stand up, turn around and lie down. It is his private place. He will keep it clean and dry to the best of his physical ability. The only alternative is to try a belly band. These are available in sizes in pet stores.... get two so you can keep a dry one available. Line it with incontinence pads (human). He'll have to wear one the entire time he is indoors.... take it off when he goes out. USUALLY, IT TAKES ABOUT 2 TO 4 WEEKS TO RE-HOUSETRAIN AN ADULT DOG. Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia, USA |
