We want to breed our female flat-coated retriever

We have a pet-quality black flat-coat with a great personality that we're interested in breeding. Her hip x-rays are rated excellent. She's 3 and a half years old and we'd like to breed her the next time she goes into heat (Nov/Dec?) Any suggestions on finding a suitable mate? Here we are in 2015 and attitudes have changed in regard to attitudes toward pet quality flat coated retrievers. Broadening the gene pool is now considered helpful in preventing the hystioscarcoma and other anomalies that are now being considered the reduced life span because of the "popular sire" issue. By all means, breed your flat coat. People buy them usually for pets, not for show, speaking as the owner of a GCH flat coated retriever. |
