A pink nose is often an indicator of an auto-imune problem. Auto-imune problems are less an immune deficiency than a misdirected immune system. The immune system has decided that some of the body's cells are invaders similar to bacteria or viruses. At least some forms have treatments. If the autoimune problem is localizes to a small portion of the skin topical creams, but in some cases the medications can be very expensive. Our dog Peanut had an autoimune problem termed IIMHA that required short term blood transmusions, and followon treatment with imune suppressant meedications commonly used in transpants for humans. The medication expenses alone added up to a few hundred dollars a month for almost two years. |
