Kennel Cough?
My chi/terrierX has had a nasty cough for the past couple of days. He's as
lively as ever, and has a huge appetite. The vet said he has no temperature, so it could be kennel cough or a virus. He's prescribed 2 weeks of antibiotics 'to see how it goes'. I'm not keen on giving antibiotics unless for an infection, and can't understand how they could help a virus. As for kennel cough, does it usually occur without a temperature? And would antibiotics cure it? I would really appreciate your advice. BTW, it's a dry, hacking sort of cough. Hard to describe a cough really. |

And no, antibiotics do nothing for a virus, but they're usually worried about secondary infections which can be bacterial. Symptoms are supposed to subside within 5 days, so since you have the antibiotics, you could wait for 5 days and if dog is getting better don't use them. Conversely if dog shows more symptoms in the next 5 days you could start them. buglady take out the dog before replying |

Thanks very much, buglady. I've checked out the site, and ti seems to
describe what he's got. As he's perfectly healthy in every other way I think I will leave the antibiotics for 5 days and see how it goes. Regds Kate "buglady" wrote in message rthlink.net...
