My brother was quoted $200 for pre-op blood work on his
3-yr-old dog. Does this sound right? Depends on how many values they are tesing for. We give the client three options being a basic CBC, a mini-panel and a full panel. We also do a ECG pre-op as well. $200 is a bit higher than us, but may be an average in some places. Is it reasonable? Depends on the equipment, level of training the doctor requires of his staff and many other things. Regardless, pre-op bloodwork is a necessary tool for the vet to see any possible complications that may arise from anesthesia as well as hidden infection, etc... Some practices even make it a mandatory test just like in human medicine. -Sharon |
