Default dogs for asthma sufferers(some advice needed).

I have asthma, moderate dog allergies and a dog (a vizsla). For me, the key
is to get a short-haired dog, and to give it a bath frequently (at least
once a week) to get rid of the dander. Luckily, our vizsla loves to get a
bath/shower, so it's easy to do.

Some people claim some dog breeds (i.e., poodles) are best for allergy
sufferers. But I've been around those breeds and they still have caused me
allergies/asthma, so I'm not sure if that is a myth or if I'm the exception.
The dogs that haven't caused me problems are generally short haired (easier
to keep clean) and are bathed frequently.

This may not be enough for people who have severe allergies or asthma. The
best thing to do, is for your family to offer to "dog sit" for a friend or
neighbor who is going out of town (I'm sure they'll agree to that :-) ), and
give the dog a bath with a thorough shampooing before it comes in your
house. See if that causes your wife any problems.

Good luck!!
