I have a pregnant bitch with two weeks to go. She is eating 6 small meals
a day, but just doesn't find room, and vomits her meals up. She covets her
food, and stand s guard, but isn't eating it. I need some suggestion for a
more nutrient dense food so that she meets nutritional requirements on a
minimal volume.

Hi Diddy,
I hope everything else is going well for you. You didn't indicate
what food you are using now, so it's hard to determine what might be
more calorically dense than what you are feeding. A pregnant bitch can
and should be fed a puppy food with elevated levels of DHA. Perhaps
canned foods might be less likely to cause the vomiting problems?? I
have no idea if this would work at all, but iit might be worth a shot.
To give you some options:

Science Diet Lamb Meal & Rice puppy dry 4,028 kcals/kg with added DHA
Pro Plan Original chicken & rice puppy formula 4,237 kcals/kg (no
added DHA tho)
Pro Plan Lamb Meal & Rice for puppies 4,203 kcals/kg (no added DHA
tho)
Eukanuba Puppy Lamb & rice 4,128 kcals/kg with added DHA
Science Diet Canine Active Adult - 4,619 kcals/kg - (not a puppy
formula and no added DHA) more for comparison than anything else.

Science Diet canned puppy 1,219 kcals/kg
Pro Plan Puppy Chicken & rice canned 1,244 kcals/kg

Diddy,
Nature's Best Puppy is 3,818 me/kcals - a bit lower than the ones I
gave you. The problem I think is the dog vomiting the food up, not so
much the caloric density of the food itself. I'd suggest a trip to the
vet and make sure there isn't some reason for this. S/he may even
suggest using a/d to add some significant calories, or perhaps canned
i/d to hold down the vomiting problems. she really shouldn't be
vomiting and I think a trip to the vet might be the best suggestion.

how about hand feeding her? that way, you know she's actually eating
the six smaller meals when she's supposed to. aside from the vomiting
problem, letting her hoard them and eat them when she wants totally
defeats the purpose of breaking up the meals.
