Default types of rottweilers?

Hi. I'm new here, didn't really even take the time to lurk and look around, but
did look at a few posts, just to see what goes on.

We have two rottweilers, and they look alike in coloring but otherwise nothing
alike. My dad was told there are three types of rotties. I found online that
there are German and American rotties. Wondering if anyone has any more
information than that.

One is tall, has a lab-like face and personality, can jump really high, and is
really paranoid. The other is blocky, has sharp teeth, can't jump, and is just
good. We think the first one may have been mixed lab/rottie because when my
cousin got her she only saw the mom, but we're not sure if that has to do with
"breed differences" (for lack of a better term). We've had one about two years,
from my cousin's boyfriend, and the other one about two weeks. They get along
fine, it's just that they look so different.

Thanks in advance for any help and feel free to e'mail responses.

Jenn

There is only one rottweiler type - standards differ only slightly
across the world. However, since not all breeders pay attention to
correct type when breeding, variances occur everywhere. The American
Rottweiler club has a good article about this subject at:

"What is the difference between the German Rottweiler and the American
Rottweiler" by Steve Wolfson

These days there is one major difference not noted in Steve's article
though - German rottweilers have tails However, some of us
American breeders are leaving the tails on as well:

And they occasionaly show up with long coats, no??
