Leaky nose
Hi I have a 5 year old Golden Retriever. Approx 1 month ago he started
sneezing, and had a leaky right eye and had a runny nose. About two weeks ago he started bleeding from the left nostril. I brought him to the vet and $300 later she had no idea what it was. According to the X-ray you do see the left nostril tunnel hazy. We did put him on anti-biotic for 10 days which will end tomorrow. Now if it doesn't stop the only other solution is to have a $600 procedure which they put a camera up his nose to make sure he doesn't have something stuck in there. If it is a cold how long can it last? Should the anti-biotic stop the cold completely within the 10 days? His sneezing seems to have stopped but the nose is still leaking but hardly any blood. If he does have something stuck up his nose will he also have a leaky nose and right eye like a cold? When we go for walks he seems to cough since he has one side of nose blocked. He seems healthy, eats normally, always as playful etc. What should i do? Wait a little longer or get that $600 procedure done? TIA |

Could be foreign body, could be fungal infection, could be tumor. If it is a cold how long can it last? .............dogs don't get colds What should i do? Leaky nose
I'd get the procedure done ASAP. I'd be more concerned with a tumor growing
in the nose than anything else. If it's something cancerous the sooner you find out what's wrong and start treatment the betters. Celeste wrote in message ps.com... Hi I have a 5 year old Golden Retriever. Approx 1 month ago he started
sneezing, and had a leaky right eye and had a runny nose. About two weeks ago he started bleeding from the left nostril. I I'd be concerned about a cancer. I really don't want to frighten you, but this should be seen again. Maybe make an appointment at the nearest veterinary teaching hospital where they have access to MRI's and specialists. Let's all hope it's a fungal or bacterial infection though. Also, the suggestion about possible dental involvement is important. Below is a link: http://www.vetpracticenews.com/vpn/d...3927&category= Snipped and copied in part: Clinical Signs The early signs of nasal cancer in dogs or cats are unilateral nasal and/or ocular discharge, epistaxis, stridor, loss of smell, loose teeth and sometimes pawing at the face. The stridor and mess from sneezing out phlegm along with the vivid color of blood during episodes of epistaxis cause great distress for pet owners. Most animals with nasal cancer exhibit sporadic signs in the early stages, then show progression over a period of about three months before diagnosis. Initially, the clinical signs fit the assumption that the pet has one of a variety of nasal conditions. Most clinicians would suspect or that a foreign body is lodged in the nasal passages. Diagnosis The best radiographs for visualizing the nasal cavity are taken under general anesthesia with the X-ray film placed into the open mouth for an intranasal view. **Too many cases of nasal cancer are initially missed on the first X-ray series because of poor visualization.** |
