There is another (at least) Betty Cavanna that involves a girl and her dog(s). The dog in question is a cocker spaniel. It might be THE BLACK SPANIEL MYSTERY. There's a dog (Reddy the Irish setter) in the Trixie Belden books, but he's not particularly "bonded" with Trixie, just sort of a background character most of the time, so that may not count. There's a couple of other dog mystery series that involve women and dogs, but I can't remember the titles or authors. In one the dog's name is Jake and I think it's a GSD. There's another series I saw the other day in Borders. The dog is something like a pit bull/Staffy/bulldog (some type of bully breed). I believe she and the dog investigate mysteries involving dogs. (I can't remember clearly; I'm sorry. You might want to check the mystery section of a bookstore. They seemed to jump right out at me, but I didn't want to get involved in another series.) THE PENDERWICKS (the girls own a dog called "Hound," who is devoted to the youngest child, "Batty"). If you count that the dog is owned by both boys and girls, as in THE GREEN POODLES, then Scholar, in Anne H. White's A DOG CALLED SCHOLAR and Junket, in White's book by the same name, also count. Thanks for the suggestions. I made some changes and updated the site. I
didn't add the Penderwicks because it didn't look like the dog was important throughout the story. |
