Default Need help with dog food.

We have an English Setter who is about 9 years old. Until 4 months ago
we fed him dry dog food we got from various sources. . Science Diet. .
Kibbles and Bits. He started acting very lethargic and stiff. Even
winced in pain when we touched various places on his body. We took him
to a vet and had every test possible but nothing showed up. Then I
read in a pet news group that Kibbles and Bits had something like
Hydrocloric acid that could produce the symptoms he showed. We saw
numerous recommendations for GORF and my wife started making all his
food from cheap meat cuts and whole grains. His health improved but he
seems to have gotten much thinner. We need some kind of dry food to
supplement his diet. . something with some calories that will put some
weight on him. He is very active. We live in the country and he is out
most of the time ranging around our land. Can you give us any
recommendations for a supplemental food?

If you're only feeding this dog meat and grains he's not getting what he
needs. Why don't you join the Yahoo group K9Nutrition or at least read some
books on home feeding. Your dog needs calcium and fat for starters.
