petguard food - good/bad/indifferent?
In the never-ending search for safe food, I ran into this product at a
health store, while looking for rice flour for me. I'm not big on the kibble idea, especially right now, but need something that my mother-in-law will feed her - as she won't even touch poultry (literally - we took a dehydrated chicken foot over last night for a treat in her kong, and well, it was still there when we got back. She did get the lamb lung - that wasn't a problem) - and since Atty's allergic to beef, well, I need kibble! I haven't actively looked for a food for about 9 years now, other than reading some of the threads here. So, any thoughts/experiences with/about this food? They recommend 2-3 cups for Atty's weight 51-75 pounds (she's 60, give or take a pound depending on how much flyball/agility she's done and how many treats my mother in law gives her!) She's on Proplan chicken/rice right now - and I know they say they are fine, but............ I'm keeping my options open for when the bag runs out in about 2-3 weeks. The sample I brought home touts (with some added bold print/all capital FREE/WITHOUT/etc) : without animal by products free of beet pulp free of yeast, soy and wheat free of artificial colors and flavors naturally preserved with vitamine E no bha, bht or ethoxyquin http://www.petguard.com/ INGREDIENTS: Fresh Chicken, Chicken Meal, Ground Whole Brown Rice, Ground Whole Yellow Corn, Oatmeal, Poultry Fat Preserved With Vitamins C and E (Natural Mixed Tocopherols), Whole Eggs, Dried Carrots, Dried Celery, Dried Sweet Potatoes, Sunflower Oil, Ester-C (Source of Vitamin C), Garlic Powder, Dried Kelp, Alfalfa Meal, Monosodium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Vitamin A Acetate, D-Alpha Tocopherol (Source of Vitamin E Supplement), D-Activated Plant Sterol (Source of Vitamin D2), Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (Vitamin B2), Choline Chloride, Inositol, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Source of Vitamin B6), Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Calcium Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K), Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Sodium Selenite.
