Solid Gold's response to my questions
I finally got through to a product specialist today. Spoke with her about SG and their practices. Here are my questions and answers. Q: Does SG manufacture its food in its own plant? A: No. Diamond is the manufacturer. It's made in their plants in Missouri and California. According to what Diamond has told them, the processes/ingredients are not co-mingled. (Comment: The lady on the phone had just come in, and was not aware of the Diamond/CS/Kirkland recall) Q: Does Solid Gold change the formulation of their pet foods without changing the label? A: No. SG realizes that many dogs have problems with certain ingredients, and do not send out bags without changing labels. The bags are expensive to produce and it isn't always possible to get new bags in time, but they produce stickers and ingredient panels with the accurate information and affix them to the bag prior to shipment. Q: What tests are run to ensure safety of the ingredients? A: They routinely test the ingredients to ensure that stuff like aflatoxins are not present in their food. All lines of their foods are being tested for the presence of Melamine, and so far, the results are all negative. Q: Will the test results be made public? A: Not unless there is a positive result. Q: SG says that their potato protein is sourced in Europe. Where? A: The potato protein is a local product, grown and processed in Germany Q: What does it mean that the tuna in the cat food is "produced offshore"? A: The tuna is produced by an American company that manufactures tuna for human consumption. The cannery is located in Thailand. Suja |
