Default what to ask for pet/house sitting?

I have been asked to pet sit for a friend of my dads. It is sort of a pet
sitting (for an older dog) and house sitting. I would be staying the night
in the persons home. They are not sure what to pay me, and I'm not sure
what to ask. I'm not interested in making a profit, but they insist on
paying me. What would be fair for them to pay me for a 24-hour period...
watching their house, feeding the dog and walking it?

I would suggest taking a look at the boarding kennels near you and
seeing what they charge. I work at a boarding kennel and we charge by
night and by the number of exercises we give the dogs (we charge
according to size). If you're not looking for a profit, I would
suggest charging about 3/4 of the average kennel charge in your
area...or just charging the standard price especially seeing as how
the dog would get a lot more attention from you compared to a standard
kennel.

I would think at the least $30 a day.
