Rez dogs
I recently moved to a reservation in Wyoming after doing cat rescue in
Pa. for 1o yrs. I knew that there was a dog problem here and had my first experience my first day. A teenager put a rubber band around his dogs tail to make it "fall off" It had to have been there for months. The poor dog was in such pain and I tried to get it off to no avail, having no help. The dog was afraid and ran off. I had my friend go to the owner and have her bring the dog to me. I was able to remove the rubber band and clean the horribly infected wound, and started "Homey" on antibiotics.I only hope that the owner will continue with the meds. I am not a vet but will do what i can with the supplies I brought with me. The family does not want to take it to the vet and I do'nt have the resources. So, Wish us luck/ Now, I realize that there is a great need of help for these poor reservation dogs. Most are strays and barely survive the harsh winters. Many times giving birth in the snow. I could go on and on. If anyone knows of any resources that could quide me i would love to try and help. I am in Ft. Washakie, Wyoming. Thanks so much, SusanS. |
