There is a really terrific yahoogroups for deaf dogs... well, their
owners.... And, although I can't recall the title.... maybe something like _Training Your Deaf Dog_... a really great book that a friend used to work with her deaf Jack Russell Terrier. Sorry I can't be more specific... You'll need to use very consistent hand signals. For instance, in teaching him to sit, you start by using a really good smelling treat like a pea size bit of Pupperoni to lure him into a sit by moving the treat from in front of his nose, over the top of his head to bring his nose up. Nose up, butt down, Give treat. Do this several times in one session then add your hand signal.... and use the lure several times with the hand signal. Do this for 2-3 different sessions, then try the signal alone, and reward with the treat if he does it. If he doesn't, back to luring, with signal, a few more times. For a sit signal, I have long used my hand, palm up, and just bring it up, flat from my side to my shoulder (at a distance and initially... later you can use a very short lift when the dog is close).
