new to kennel training, need advice
We adopted a 3-4-month-old puppy from the pound and he's coming home
tomorrow. I've never kennel trained before (both of my dogs were a bit older when I got them, so it wasn't an issue) and I wanted to know if I should set up bedding (i.e. towel or blanket, etc.) in the kennel for him or no bedding. I'll be putting a couple of chew toys in there with him and will keep him in the room with me at all times (I work at home) regarding behavior training and watching for accidents. I also wondered if anyone could recommend good obedience books or articles on line that have easy-to-follow instructions. I've never really pursued the obedience training before, so I'm also new to this... Thank you so much, and if you want to e-mail me, here's my addy: Brandy Say goodnight Gracie... Goodnight Gracie. |

We're in puppy planning mode ~ our little girl is coming home in approx 5 - 6 weeks, so I share your excitement! I'm in the UK but I was recommended a product called vetbed, which is a fleece type bedding that is supposedly indestructable so that the puppy can't chew through it, or chew bits off risking inernal blockages and draws moisture away if the puppy has an accident. it's also supposed to repell fleas and doggy odours ~ my old dog always smelt quite nice, even as a very old lady but her bed seemed to need frequent washing. Disadvantage ~ well, it costs a fair bit! but we figure if its indestructable, it should last a life time. We'll see! I also wondered if anyone could recommend good obedience books or articles on line that have easy-to-follow instructions. Although this site is English, it has a number of books reviews which you should be able to find in the US, and if you're lucky they might be available in your local library, but the bringing up a puppy and training advice is very good and I'm sure you'll find it very useful. http://www.infopet.co.uk Diana |

Hi Brandy ,
Well done for adopting an unwanted puppy . I like David Westons Dog Training , The Gentle Modern Method. It explains every thing clearly and has lots of photos . I bought mine in the Uk but I believe you can buy it on www.amazon.com -- Alison Photos of dogs needing homes and links to Rescues. http://mysite.freeserve.com/AnimalRescueLinksUK Links to animal information websites http://mysite.freeserve.com/petinfolinks "gnGracie" wrote in message news:UX_Qa.16107$AD3.3009@lakeread04... While researching and waiting the arrival on my new puppy, I found some excellent web sites: Dog Owner's Guide: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/index.html Doggie Door to Canine Behavior: http://www.doggiedoor.com/ rec.pets.dogs FAQ: http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/ ~~Jenifer Owned by 2 sammies (soon to be three!) |
