Default Thank doG for overcast days

Ran out with the kidlets to do a few errands this pm: one was to the local
Zellers since *overnight* the boys have decided to outgrow *every* one of
their sleepers (they aren't "preemie" size anymore :-).

As we were returning to the car, another shopper called to me from across
the parking lot: she had noticed that the car beside hers had a dog locked
in it--the windows weren't even cracked open!

It was cooler than it has been, but it was still about 25c. Luckily for the
dog, it was overcast so at least the sun wasn't beating down on the car's
roof.

The other woman went back into Zellers, and asked them to try paging the
owner--neither of us had our cell phones or I would probably have phoned 911
(not that I know if they would've/could've done anything).

It's not like the media doesn't remind us every year that dogs shouldn't be
left in cars. Now if we could only get the idiots to listen :-(

Yippeee!!!!
Way to go!!!

I don't leave Angel alone in the car in summer of course. But I do have a
pair of those neat
little stretchy fency things that you can stick in the window before
rolling it halfway up.

That way I can give her a safe 8 inches on BOTH sides
in spring / fall. And she loves those car rides...

You go, gal.
Wednesday, our power was out, scheduled, for 5 hours
from noon to 5pm.
It got unbearable in the house, so Paul fired up
the generator in the 5th wheeler, turned on the AC,
hooked up the VCR
and tv and the movie, "Willow" along with snacks
and all 3 dogs.
They had a grand old time and were all comfy and
cool in the trailer.
(I swear, these dogs think we bought them a nice big
dog house instead of a plastic Igloo.)
Of course, this 13 HP generator is never going
to be welcome in any national park, so it looks
as if we'll be "camping" in truck stops and Walmart
parking lots.

But hey, at least they were all cool, calm
and collected.
Funny side to that: Paul was coming out of
the garage with a VCR and TV at the same time
under each arm;the Title guy showed up without an appointment.
After Paul fussed at him for arriving without an appointment,
thinking at first this guy was an appraiser, he realized that the Title guy
most likely thought HE(Paul)was robbing
the place and wanted to be anywhere else than
OUR place!
All *I* could do, upon hearing the story, was laugh.

My husband took one of the dogs with him to a local hardware/home
improvement store, but decided to leave her in the car. Running. With the
air conditioner on. He parked in the spot closest to the store, where he
could see the car at all times. What he wanted to buy was at the checkout
stand, and the checkout stands are in front of big, open garage doors. He
got inside, to the checkout, and within that 30 seconds, there was a page
about the car with the dog in it. And he'd seen no one even near the car. Of
course, no one would have known the air was on, but she was more likely to
get frostbite than get warm, unless she started pushing buttons or
something.

I told him next time, just bring her in. Or leave her home.

Annoying, but I think that it is a large improvement over the situation a
couple of years ago where no-one would even give it (leaving a dog in a
car) a second thought.

I was actually quite pleased. After all, no one would have known that the
air was on.

There was an article in the paper, I think last week, about a woman who left
her kids in the car while she went shopping. One a baby in a carseat, and
the others were aged 2-5 approx. According to onlookers, the baby was
sweating profusely, while the other kids ran in and out of the car, around
the car, in the parking lot, and out into the street.

By the time police arrived, she was gone, but they went to her home (someone
took the plate #) and she said that she was only gone 5 minutes and she did
it all the time. The person who reported it said that she came out of the
store with 5 bags of groceries.
