Default Problems after spaying.

Our 5-month old dog has been litter trained. Yes, over the past couple
of months she has had the odd accident ot two, but lately she has been
perfect. The other day she was spayed. After that, it seems as if her
housetraining is completely gone. The pees and poos whereever she
happens to be, even going out of her way to be sure she does not use
her litter box. What happened? I've heard of spay incontinence, but
this isn't it. It's almost as if she is associating her litter box as
NOT the place to go all of a sudden. Any suggestions? Do they have
problems for a couple weeks after spaying? Any adivce appreciated.

Sounds like she had to strain to (most likely) do #2, and it hurt her
surgery site, and she's associating that pain with the litterbox. I would
take the litterbox, change it completely & disinfect it, put it in a
different place, and start her housebreaking over from square one. It will
come quicker to her the 2nd time.

You did the "responsible" thing by spaying your dog. Now your dog won't
be contributing to the MASSIVE PET OVERPOPULATION CRISIS!!!!!

quit complaining. Just be happy that your dog survived the surgery.

SHELLY IS THE ONLY ONE WHO DOESN'T THINK HATTIE IS STARVING

"when i got harriet she was emaciated, so i asked my vet for advice on
slowly adding weight to her. six months later i took harriet in for her
spring check-up and my vet was surprised that at how thin she still was."
--shelly couv.rette

"raises hand i've been told by three different vets that
harriet (53lbs) is *way* too skinny. we're still
vet-shopping, BTW."

--shelly couv.rette

"if you really can't resist
it when your dog pulls the "i'm starving!" routine G, you can give
him some frozen green beans or a small amount of plain pureed pumpkin.
i would also suggest putting the food out of his sight. i keep my
food--still inside the bags, which are tightly rolled down--inside
trash cans in the closed laundry room. that keeps it fresh and keeps
it out of my dogs' sight."

--shelly couv.rette

"heh. i get the opposite response. people think that poor little
harriet is positively starved to death. i've actually had people stop
me in the pet supply shop and tell me that i need to fatten her up!"

--shelly couv.rette

"i think that may be part of the problem. who wants to go to a
vet who tells you you're hurting your .widdle precious? i
think the other part is that some vets really don't *realize*
that what they consider proper weight is fat. after having
been told by a couple of vets that my dogs are too thin, i've
got a dim view of vets on that topic."

--shelly couv.rette

"my mom is kinda that way, but not *as* bad. she thinks that harriet is
awfully skinny, so feeding her table snax is okay. she tells me that
just a bite won't hurt."

--shelly couv.rette

NOBODY IS STARVING FAT PI.G SHELLY

NOBODY WILL STOP SHELLY ON THE STREET

There are a lot of big fat women on these groups who starve their dogs
out of vanity, but shelly is a special case.

shelly is moor.e than a little bit beyond the pale

Shelly has OCD, and maybe she's just a little obsessive about measuring
out extra tiny and discrete portions with a tiny measuring cup, or
counting out pieces of green bean or pumpkin that she gives her dogs
when they give her the "I'm Starving" routine. When grandma tried to
give Hattie a snack, shelly probably went apeshit, because it was in
violation of her Obsessive need to oversee every tiny calorie that goes
into her widdle precious' mouth.

shelly's a special case, a special kind of dog abuser.

I can only assume that you are "anti-spaying" and being sarcaastinc. If
that is NOT the case I apologize in advace for what follows.

Thank you for not being helpful. Thank you for taking the time, and effort
to basically make an ass of yourself in public. Thank you VERY much for
confirming my belief that the majority of humanity is composed of base
individuals with no capability to see beyond their own beliefs. I
appreciate it. It is also good when a sanity check comes up positive.

Now then. There IS a pet overpopulation crisis. Don't think so? Go check
the pound. I invite you to visit any one of your local SPCA or other
affiliated shelters. Ask them how many animals per week are destroyed
because they have no place to put them.

Once again, thank you for your considered, but essentially worthless and
poorly thought out input.

Thatwas the problem, and, as the wounds have healed, this behavoir seems to
have changed. We used a lot of praise and treats when she did her
"buisness" in the proper location, and she seems to, once again, be litter
trained. Thanks for the suggestions though. I appreciate that you took time
out of your life to try and help!

Stow it. You got nothin to apologize for, except bein STUPID.
You are absolutely right. There is no need to apologize to an asshole for
calling him/her out on being an asshole.

Can you tell the TRUTH from a LIE?:

Depends on how much information I am equipped with. Can you?

weird stuff snipped
What the hell was that? What did it have to do with anything? Are you even a
person, or am I talking to some weird sort of BOT that posts non sequiters?

Glad to hear it! That's pretty typical. The pressure from
post-surgical swelling confuses them, but when the swelling subsides
all is well.
