Default Struvite Crystals

Anyone on this list have expirence with this? Our ESS is fed Hill's C/D, has
been on antibiotics. She went off them a few months back and since she has been
retested her triple phosphate crystals are "many" once again.
Is there an alternative to a lifetime of anitbiotics?
Thanks

Hi,

I have been going through hell the past few years with my dog and stones.
You name the type, he seems to get them and has now had a urethrosotomy.
What breed of dog do you have?

Thunder is stuck on antibiotics for life as well, but it's not so bad if you
keep the dosage really low. What is your dog taking? Allopurinol? Food
wise, the best food we have found in preventing stones is natural life
vegetarian. We like it even better than hills U/D. Natural Life is a 'fit
for human consumption' type food too so it's just been amazing and hasn't
dried his skin like U/D. If you find a store that carries innova brand,
you'll find natural life there too.

Just my 2 cents

The problem with the above is that there is no such thing as "fit for human
consumption". That's a buzz phrase that isn't regulated and doesn't exist in
the real world. It's the latest claim made by niche dog food companies that
sounds good but doesn't have a "real life" application. All pet food
ingredients are actually designated "unfit for human consumption" by law. The
only claims that I've seen to the effect of "human-grade ingredients" are only
made in literature and not on the actual packaging itself since that claim is
misleading and not at all accurate.

My understanding is that Hill's u/d is a unique food that is formulated for
special circumstances and it's highly unlikely that you could find anything
over the counter that would be a comparable substitute.
