Salukis was Yippee, no more training questions
Howdy Terri,
Brought up "properly" they are standoffish. I've had 2 that were social. One of which is Chime. She will be all over people for a minute or 2 and then go on to other things, then come back to be noticed and then leave again and this goes on until the visitor leaves. Usually all Salukis will greet people that come to their house but it is a low keyed greeting. Now if you go to a place that has a number of Salukis then you can get a noisey hello. People that come to my place have to come up to the front gate which is away from the house so the dogs have a chance to bark from their smaller fenced area. Frank X. Howdy Terri,
Sleeping on their backs is a standard sleeping positon for Salukis. Chime has taken it to a new level by hanging her head over the edge of the couch with her nose almost touching the floor. She will also eat her treats from that position :-) I don't know if I would want a dog that is more affectionate than the Saluki. When they get in my king sized bed they make it reeeeeal tight :-) And like they say; Being in bed with a Saluki is like sleeping with a gunny sack full of deer antlers :-) Frank X. I just visited a friend today who has 4 Salukis. Her oldest probably has the typical Saluki temperament; he is standoffish, at least until he gets to know people. He knows me very well, so he greeted me politely (wagging and sniffing, accepting petting). She has another female and male that are both unusually friendly, especially the bitch, who jumped up and put her paws on my shoulder. The 4th is still a pup, so the jury's still out on him. They definitely bark when people come over. Mustang Sally Frank X. Morris http://community.webtv.net/Sulkhalil/SalukiCornerChime |
