Default Puppy digging holes in backyard

Hi,

I have just recently acquired a 9 month old puppy to look after for the next
couple of months. But I cannot get him to stop digging holes in the
backyard.

One hole has to be nearly a foot deep, we fill it in, he digs it up. It
isn't as if he is burying bones or anything, I am not too sure why he is
doing it.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, it is quite dangerous walking
out the back at night.

Many thanks,

Sharon.

the yard with him.

Couple of ideas:

1. If you're not out there with him, he should be in with you.
2. If he still digs when he's out there with you, perhaps he just really
likes to dig. Consider dedicating part of your yard to his digging.
Discourage him from digging elsewhere, lead him to his spot, and praise.
Worked for us!
3. Fill in the holes with his own poop. Not a great idea if he's digging in
your vegetable garden or flowerbeds, just because of parasites.

Lia,

When I use the work pup, I mean a nine month old dog, fully grown.
Unfortunately bringing him in is not an answer, I am only minding him for my
sister and he will not be an inside dog at her place.

Allowing him to come into mine would be unfair and confusing for him when he
eventually moves in with her.

The digging is happening late at night when I am asleep. He may be bored
however, he has my dog to keep him company and they do play together.

Sharon.
