Chew Toys for Yellow Labs (or larger dogs)
I was wondering if anyone who has a yellow lab or large dogs has any
recommendations for good chew toys. We've given our dog various toys that are supposedly for "strong chewers," but she gets through them right away. Recently we've found a good nylabone, but she gets bored of it rather easily. I think she likes the challenge of "destroying" her toys, but this is becoming very expensive! Also, we don't want to give her a rawhide bone more than once a week. SOmeone told me labs are not supposed to have rawhides too often because it can cause stomach problems. Does anyone have any information regarding either good chew toys or other information about rawhides? Thanks! Candy |

We bought our 70 lb yellow Lab a large black Kong to hide treats in and chew
on. It's pretty much indestructible. The black ones are tougher than the red ones, btw. She also has lots of balls-large 'buddy glow ball' (has puncture holes but is still round), tennis balls (tears cover fuzz off of one occasionally-don't buy the cheap ones at the pet store- get real tennis balls-pet store ones tear in half easily), and she has a teddy bear that we have to patch at least once a week. (loves to tear a hole in it to pull the stuffing out, but only occasionally). She has a rope toy that she loves to play with, but our trainer has advised against playing tug of war with her (especially if she's allowed to win) so we've put that away. Me and Bobby McGee--
Thanks for the info; we haven't yet tried a black kong, though we've gone through a couple of the red ones. What exactly is a buddy glow ball? Also, do you give your dog rawhides? I'm still torn on this issue. Thanks again. Candy "me and bobby mcgee" wrote in message ... We bought our 70 lb yellow Lab a large black Kong to hide treats in and chew on. Candy,
Here's a link to the Sun Pet Toys site. They make all sorts of neat dog toys. We bought our glow ball at petsmart. http://www.sunpettoys.com/ As I understand it, the black Kongs are made of natural rubber, and are harder than the synthetic red ones. We just had to make sure and get a large one, as our dog is probably strong enough to tear up a smaller one. We give Mishka rawhide chews once a week or less, (she gobbles them down) but now that you've mentioned it, we'll have to research whether these might be bad for her.
