Odd/sad behavior
I think I've mentioned before a local AKC show breeder who has about
50 GSDs they've bred warehoused-for-life in their miserable kennel because they've been retired from the ring, aren't going to make it in the ring, were sold or returned, whatever. It's a mess and these dogs aren't exactly easy to find homes for - no human contact, no training, kennel-crazy for years. One 3 yr old male that I thought might be able to make it was neutered and went into a normal family home last week. I've been sick in bed and couldn't get over there to help them until today. He'll be okay, but it's really sad to watch him try to make contact with them in the only way he knows how. The only time he was ever handled in his 3 years was being groomed for a show. After finding a bathtub in his new home, he's been spending all non-pacing time standing in it, waiting for someone to come brush him. Sad. (Oh - and the friend who's UDX gsd could no longer understand her verbal or hand signals at a match 2 Sundays ago turned out to have a stage 4 inoperable brain tumor and has been hospitalized since that day. Our breed club's specialty shows are 3/13&14 and she probably won't make it that long. So I'm to start working her dog on Mon. in preparation for a tribute routine to start the title-holder's parade at the judge's lunch break the 1st day :-( It's been a crummy week. ) Lynn K. |
