No, this is nothing pornographic or kinky. My wife and I adopted a little
cockapoo who was abused by a previous owner. The dog adores my wife but is
terrified of me except at two times of the day -- when I first get up and at
bedtime. At those times, when I'm "au naturale" or I'm in my bathrobe, she
will let me pet her and will even play with me a bit. She also comes up and
bums me for a portion of whatever I'm eating for breakfast (I'm still in my
bathrobe then). When I put my clothes on, she starts barking at me like I'm
some kind of monster and won't come near me. It's especially bad when I put
on a nylon jacket or other item of clothing that makes a swishy sound. She
really goes bonkers then. We heard the abuser was a guy who was a day
sleeper and he tied her out and beat her when she barked and disturbed his
sleep. How can I desensitize her? Please feel free to contact me at the
address below.

Replace your current wardrobe with pretty dresses? Seriously, this is
something that will just need time. Not raising your voice to her or being
the one to correct her will go a long way. Leave that to your wife for a
while. When she seeks your attention go easy and take your cues from her.
If you see her getting nervous, reign in a little and let her walk away if
she wants. She'll come around as she realizes you don't pose a threat to
her.

Consider that your bathrobe probably resembles a dress to the dog, and you say
she was abused by a former male owner. It will take time for her to realize you
are not going to abuse her, then she should accept you.
