Default Siberians at the Beargrease

[]
The Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon started yesterday, and
there are some pretty decent pictures of some Siberian teams
at http://community.webshots.com/album/123866644hsrbhD ,
including Image's former team on the second page.

Meanwhile, part of my day yesterday was spent putting away
the sledding equipment for the season. Sigh.

Why are so many dogs marked with day-glo paint?

Meanwhile, part of my day yesterday was spent putting away
the sledding equipment for the season. Sigh.

It's 16degC here today, but winter is still far from over.

I don't know, but if I had to guess (which I don't, come to
think of it) I'd say that it's to mark the dogs that have
been vet-checked. I'll ask.

It's snowing lightly, but winter is definitely over. We had
a short, sharp winter - didn't arrive until the beginning of
January and completely disappeared at the end of February,
but was quite, quite intense while it was here. We get a
major late March snowstorm about 1/3 of the time but I
don't think it's going to happen this year. I figure my
best bet for more snow is to put the sled away; if it helps
bring the snow gods I can always pull the sled out again.

My guess was that it marked the lead dog (photo 5), but there
are are two painted dogs in #17, so I guess that I guessed
wrong.

If I had a sled, I'd also put it away to tempt the snow gods. I
love cold winters and warm summers but hate the in between
slushy muddy stuff.
