Default Strange behavior after being in a dog fight

Short Summary:
After my dog was the on the recieving end of an aggressive dog display (not
sure what to call it because attack sounds too vicious, basically the dog
"went after" my dog), he rubbed the sides of his face in dog poop. Any one
know why?

Long Description:
Ever since he had all his shots (about 16 weeks), I have taken my 9 month
old, male, Austrailian Shepard (name is Tiger) to the off-leash dog park
near my house. We go once or twice a week and he loves it and loves to play
with all the dogs.

This week we went and he had a run in with a dog (it was a mix, not sure of
what breeds, but it was probably 80 pds and built like a German Shepard but
not colored like one) at the park. The owner said this was only the second
this dog had been to the park (she found him on the street and had had him
for 2 months) and that he fought with a dog last time he was there too
(which make me terribly upset that she brought the dog back).

Anyway, I left the park. I have done too much work socializing Tiger to let
one irresponsible owner ruin his confidence. One the way out of the park, he
was doing his normal sniffing around but this time he located some dog poop
and rubbed each side of his face in it (in the puff of hair right below his
ears). He has never done this before, but then he has never been attacked by
a dog before either. He hasn't done it since, but we haven't been back to
the dog park yet.

Anyone have any idea why this behavior? I looked around the internet but I
am not sure how search for "dog rubs his face in poo" and get a valid
website.

Thanks!
Audrey and Tiger

BTW: he was not hurt, just very scared. Right after the scare he ran between
my legs and laid down (another behavior he has never done, but that one is
pretty readable).
